Charities We Currently Support

The Barcelona Women's Network is delighted to lend its support to these local charities during the 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 membership years.

Fundación Enriqueta Villavecchia helps kids with cancer and their families in what the foundation calls “the other part of the fight against cancer.” With their worlds being turned upside, these families face unique problems that the foundation attempts to help alleviate. The program includes: activities for children and young people in both the hospital and the casals outside, support for the children through home and hospital visits, support to families including provision of accommodation near hospitals while children are undergoing treatment, and financial help for families with limited resources.

PRISBA (FIAS) works in the Casc Antic (La Ribera) and offers daycare for 30 elderly people. The daycare provides activities, meals (including a take-away supper), and companionship. In addition, medication is monitored and doctors appointments are arranged. Laundry service is also provided and showers are available for elderly residents in the barrio. In addition to the daycare, 100 elderly receive weekly home visits that provide help with cleaning, shopping, food, and doctor appointments. PRISBA also provides lunch for 25 addition people (of any age and include immigrants and homeless), who are identified by social services as being in need of a meal. PRISBA is the only center in Barcelona that provides lunch for families with small children, including the proper food for babies. It also runs a thrift store/charity shop and alteration service, which employs women from the neighborhood who would otherwise find it hard to get a job. The shop enables the less fortunate to buy clothing at a low price.

Els Angels ASPAHID, in Montornés del Vallés, is an association of parents whose children (age range 10 to 45) have a physical or mental disability. The mission of the organization is to work towards the total integration of their children in society through informational chats, therapy, physical therapy, computer classes, and excursions.

Els Angels ASPAHID has no website but is supported by the local council in Montornés, who also provide premises. It is a member of the federation ECOM (Assocations for People with Disabilities).
