Film Night

Mon, 20.09.10 TBC

Where?

Please email Anuradha for details.

Our monthly Film Night has become one of BWN’s most popular evening activities.
By vote, we select an English language movie that shows as “original version” (i.e. that has not been dubbed into Spanish) at an easy-to-reach Barcelona theatre.
We typically shoot for an early evening start time, meeting c. 19:30-19:45 at the theatre so that everybody can individually buy her ticket before the show starts. Often, many of us join up for a drink or dinner afterwards. And the popcorn & shake during the movie are anyway optional!

Cost

Pay-your-own-ticket.

    2) Are there any membership fees?

Yes. Our annual membership fee is 60 euros per year for regular members and 110 euros for a business members. Our calendar year runs from 1 September until 31 August.

and through an online directory, and participation in the running of the organization during monthly meetings.

Having business membership allows you to promote your business to other members of the network. You can promote yourself in the following ways:

    • website presence through a listing in the business directory
    • a monthly email to all members (called a Business BON)
    • dedicated information table at the monthly coffee mornings

    4) What is done with the money collected from membership fees?

Like most organizations, BWN uses some of the funds for covering operating costs, e.g. publicizing and  hosting events, and renting meeting space. Any surplus is donated to local charities chosen by BWN members.

All kinds!  We range in age from 20-something to 70-something, and come from over 30  countries.

    6) How did the group get started?

Over 10 years ago, BWN started as an informal group of international friends joining together to share  their experiences of living abroad in Spain. From there, a network of women -new and not so new- to Barcelona evolved.

    8) Do I have to speak English to join?

While official business is conducted in English, you do not have to be fluent to join and enjoy our  many activities.

    9) Why should I join?

In the words of one of our members:"To socialize, share experiences, learn, be stimulated and be part of a group."

    10) I work fulltime. Do you have anything for me?

In addition to evening tapas and drinks parties, there are many regular evening events including a  monthly professional networking event, a dinner for members (partners or friends welcome too), and a  monthly evening drinks at one of Barcelona's many bars.

    11) Do you have activities for families?

Yes! For babies and toddlers, there is a weekly play group where the adults can also get to know each  other. For older children, there are occasional family outings. There is also an annual children's  party in December.

    12) I’d like to learn more about Barcelona, do you have any cultural events?

Once a month, BWN organizes an outing in and around Barcelona. Members have explored nearby cities,  tasted local cavas, toured  historic homes, enjoyed guided museum tours, and even shopped together.  At other times, we also meet at museums,  galleries, and sponsored concerts.

    13) Where and when do you meet?

We meet all the time in several locations around the city. Read more in What We Do.

    14) Can I try before joining?

Yes. Please feel free to join us at any two of our events.

    15) How is the group organized?

The BWN is run by a member elected Executive Board consisting of a president, two vice-presidents, a treasurer and a secretary. In addition, there are standing committees, which assist in various aspects of the organization. The BWN is also registered with the local Spanish government as a notforprofit organization.

    16) Is the BWN affiliated with other organizations?

When the BWN began, it became one of the groups under the Federation of American Womens Clubs Overseas.  This association has provided web-hosting, a connection for women moving to Barcelona from other FAWCO clubs, opportunities  for networking around the world, and ideas for philanthropy.

    17) Who do I contact with further questions?

Write an email to members@bcnwomensnetwork.com or use the Contact Us page on this website. We'd love to hear from you.
