Brief description of the business:

I help people who are dissatisfied with or confused about their career direction or may be looking for more meaning in their work and life. We work through a process where we discover what my clients really want short term and long term, what they find most fulfilling, their dreams and goals, then clarify their direction and reinvent their careers to get there. I also help my clients develop a plan and execute it, including job search strategies, CV and cover letter writing, interviewing skills, networking skills, etc. I am a Certified Professional Co-Active Coach (CPCC) and am credentialed with the International Coaching Federation (ICF). I also have an MBA from a top business school and have extensive experience as a manager, director, and consultant in human resources for global Fortune 500 companies. I'm also the career coach for the international MBA alumni of Columbia University. I coach in English and in Spanish.

Business address:

Barcelona and Tarragona, but my business is global. Address in Barcelona: Paseo de Gracia 83
Barcelona
08008

Why and when I did start my business:

While completing an internationally accredited coaching program in Paris, France, I began coaching professionally in January 2007 after several relocations in succession to follow my husband's amazing job opportunities and promotions. While I was thrilled for my husband's successful and fulfilling career and the opportunity to discover new places and learn new languages, I was finding it very difficult to get ahead professionally as we were never in one place long enough. I already at that point had 12+ years of experience in human resources management and consulting for large global companies and had been coaching for quite some time in these capacities and had always loved this aspect of my professional experience. So coaching came to me in a flash of insight as a natural extension of my experience, of what I love to do, and of who I am. And as coaching is extremely flexible and can be done remotely via telephone and internet/webcam (as well as in person if my clients and I are in the same city), it was my answer to continuing my professional journey without having to disrupt it with chronic relocations. My office is now virtual and I have clients in different locations in North and South America, Europe, and Australia. It is the perfect career for a serial expat such as myself who loves to help people find their path to fulfillment and has expertise around careers, business, expatriate and cross-cultural issues.

This is my target market or audience:

Men and women with some life experience who have already achieved a fair measure of success in their careers but are dissatisfied or unclear about where they are headed. In general my clients range in age from early 30's to mid 50's. My clients are all ambitious and have energy and drive, and a "burning in their belly" for something more...

How I would like to see my business change in the future:

My advice to other BWN members which want to start a own business:

A great idea and a dream need solid basics, organization and planning to become a reality. The details are very important and can make or break it, so don't hesitate to seek out expert advice for financial and legal matters, business planning, investor funding, etc. Then, GO FOR IT!!

My biggest business achievement:

Finding my calling and starting my coaching business; taking a chance and striking out on my own.
