Film Night
Mon, 20.09.10 TBC
Where?
Please email Anuradha for details.
Our monthly Film Night has become one of BWN’s most popular evening activities.
By vote, we select an English language movie that shows as “original version” (i.e. that has not been dubbed into Spanish) at an easy-to-reach Barcelona theatre.
We typically shoot for an early evening start time, meeting c. 19:30-19:45 at the theatre so that everybody can individually buy her ticket before the show starts. Often, many of us join up for a drink or dinner afterwards. And the popcorn & shake during the movie are anyway optional!
Cost
Pay-your-own-ticket.

Tancat
Friday, July 23, 2010“Tancat” was probably the first Catalan word that I learned. I discovered its meaning during my first August in Spain after attempting to buy bread at no fewer than three bakeries. All were tancat or “closed.” Closed for vacation.

Saturday, November 14, 2009This is an Indian summer, right. But do you know how to say it in Spanish? I’d forgotten. So I checked it out, and in fact there are various ‘veranillos’. This one in November is called el veranillo de San Martín and l’estiuet de Sant Martí in Catalan. Why? And in particular, you might be wondering, as I was, whether there’s a connection with the Catalan for rainbow - l’arc de Sant Martí.
