This monthly meeting gives members and those interested in joining the BWN a chance to meet, hear about and sign up for forthcoming events, and learn more about the BWN. Coffee mornings are always followed by Cheap & Cheerful an inexpensive “menu del dia” at a nearby restaurant.

Thursday, November 20, 2008Don?t you just love browsing in second-hand shops and charity shops? Last week I got back from the UK with a case full of bargains from Bury. On The Rock, the town?s main drag, there are at least half a dozen - Cancer Research, Bury Hospice, Heart Foundation, Help The Aged, Oxfam, several animal charities whose names I can?t recall ... and they have such a lot of super stuff, with the clothes arranged by size on colour coded hangers. And it doesn?t all have that horrid damp musty smell that you get in Humana

Thursday, July 03, 2008Dunnit! At last, an apple sorbet that tastes pretty close to what I imagined with my inner taste. Sorbets are difficult. To get the right texture (I never get the right texture) you need to make a sugar syrup, but you also need to add lemon or lime juice to tone down the sweetness. But you overdo the lemon, and then you add more sugar to take the edge off and ... it’s downhill all the way. Yes, of course I have recipes. But none of the sorbet recipes I have ever followed have worked for me. So I improvise.
