Featuring a sing-along time, and other activities as determined by the group. Vilanova And The Geltrú
Friday, June 06, 2008This week I revisited Vilanova i La Geltrú after… hey, the last time was before we had the kids, wasn’t it? I’d certainly never been beyond Sitges on the train, and that was decades ago. We drove everywhere, and we almost always went to the mountains - a village in the Solsonès - where my late husband’s family had a house. Enric hated the beach, and I have to admit, I dislike it too when it’s packed out. About ten years ago we drove to Sitges first thing on a Saturday morning after leaving a long-lost cousin from Cuba at the airport. I found it divine, and Enric was just about okay until the crowds started to arrive.

Monday, May 26, 2008You may know that the word polaco (Pole, Polish) is used in a derogatory way by people from elsewhere in Spain, in particular Madrid, to refer to a Catalan. Hence the title of the very popular TV3 satire programme Polònia. The thinking seems to have been: so they call us polacos? Okay: then this crazy place is Polònia.
Another Day in Paradise
Tuesday, April 29, 2008I love cooking. I love trying out recipes. I also love making simple (and, I trust, healthy) dishes with what I have around. On Sunday I made a delicious (if I say so myself!) four course meal, which, with the exception of the dessert, hinged on doing tasty things with olive oil. There must be thousands of articles about olive oil entitled Liquid Gold, so the Phil Collins song title will have to do.
